Historical Material
The Zimbabwe African People's Union - ZAPU is to day, a mature and dynamic organisation which is the vanguard of the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe. ZAPU has always had and continues to maintain a country-wide membership. It commands an ever-expanding, effective guerrilla force. It has a stable leadership tested over scores of years of extremely trying times and has emerged with an ideological concept which puts it on the side of the revolutionary progressive world.
We have together travelled a long and difficult road of struggle. We have shared times of tribulation and times of sacrifice. Today we stand as victors. We now have our Zimbabwe. Your government of the Patriotic Front is there for you. Vote for it. In this way we shall honour the objectives of the fallen heroes of our struggle. President Dr Joshua M. Nkomo
With his recent election as the new president of Rhodesia's black nationalist movement, Joshua Nkomo finally gained the position for which he has long worked. Although an active nationalist for 20 years, the stout and personable leader previously held minimal power because of competition from three rival liberation movements.
