This document shows the overall organisational structure of ZAPU and the inter-relations between the various substructures of the party. For dministratin purposes ZAPU is geographically divided into three Administrative Regions as elaborated in this document.
BACKGROUND
The Zimbabwe African Peoples Union is a mature and dynamic organization which was the vanguard of the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe. It has always had and continues to maintain a countrywide membership. It has a stable leadership tested over many years of extremely trying times and has emerged with a vibrant organizational structure.
ZAPU wishes to make known its position concerning the much-talked about secession of Matabeleland from the rest of Zimbabwe, as demanded by certain organizations in Matabeleland.
Historical Background of ZAPU
The Zimbabwe African People’s union (ZAPU) was formed in 1961, following the banning of the Southern Rhodesia ANC and the NDP, both of which were formed to fight for the Zimbabwean people’s right to political, social, economic and cultural self-determination and national independence.
ZAPU is a strong political party with proactive policy platforms which make it better able to take on a leadership role in governance and provide for the sustainability of democratic development in Zimbabwe, as well as in the regional context. This documents outlines the face, the stand and the aims of ZAPU with reference to the current political situation in Zimbabwe.
