An ideology may be defined as a body, especially of economic, social and political ideas or theories, which guide a society or a nation in developing a given social system. The ideology of ZAPU is human rightsism . It is based on the concept human rights. Human rights are concerned with survival, social justice, human well-being and equality in terms of rights and responsibilities According to human rights ism, human rights are the soul (essence) of democracy and a compass for developing a democratic state or society.

According to human rightsisms governance, democracy is a political system of governance which promotes and protects human rights. In order to promote and protect human rights, democracy can take any form, depending on the social structure of a given society. Human rightsism as an ideology is a compass for guiding the ZAPU government and the people of Zimbabwe, who are the owners of the state, in their mission of developing a democratic state, a state that respects, promotes and respects human rights without distinction of any kind. It will also be the basis of ZAPU government’s foreign policy. According to the concept of human rights ism Zimbabwe is not a democratic state because it does not respect, promote and protect human rights. Since the state of Zimbabwe was created in 1980, the ZANU (PF) government which has been responsible for discharging the duties of the state has been violating human rights to the people of Zimbabwe. For example, it has continuously violated the principle of equal rights, the rights to security and peace, as well as the rights to work and to an adequate standard of living.

The violation of the principle of equal rights, as well as the rights to security and peace has led to the racial and ethnic polarization of the Zimbabwean society. The violation of the rights to work and to an adequate standard of living has made, about 90 percent of the population, to live in poverty. Some of the Zimbabweans, in order to escape poverty and unemployment have left the country. It is estimated that 4.5 million Zimbabweans live in foreign countries. ZAPU government is committed to develop a democratic state, together with the people of Zimbabwe.
